Diversifying Across the Value Chain
Agrium operates at all levels of the value chain and has increased its global reach.
Raw Materials
We own two phosphate mines and one potash mine. The primary raw material for nitrogen fertilizers is natural gas, which we purchase from local suppliers.
Production
We produce over eight million tonnes of nitrogen, potash, phosphate and specialty fertilizers annually from 12 major production facilities and four smaller upgrading and specialty facilities.
Distribution
With approximately 4 million tonnes of storage capacity, and our fleet of more than 3,000 leased railcars, we distribute more than 13 million tonnes of our own and third-party products annually.
Agricultural Retail
Our 413 retail farm centres in the United States and 31 locations in Argentina and Chile provide crop inputs to growers. This includes fertilizer, crop protection products and seed, whether sourced internally or from other major manufacturers. We also provide crop consulting and application services.
Specialty and Industrial Markets
We sell controlled-release fertilizers, micronutrients and other specialty products for use on grains, fruits, vegetables, professional and residential turf. Our wholesale business markets directly to the forestry, mining and metals industries.
