Kenai Nitrogen Operations Fire

Our Kenai, Alaska nitrogen facility experienced a fire in the reformer on Plant 4 (ammonia) on March 9, 2005. No one was injured and early indications are that the damage was not extensive.

The Kenai facility has two ammonia and two urea plants. Plant 4 (ammonia) and one of the urea plants have been operational throughout the winter. Kenai has restarted the second ammonia plant (Plant 1), which was already scheduled to restart, as gas availability has increased with the arrival of warmer weather.

Kenai continues to operate one ammonia and one urea plant while repairs are made to the Plant 4 ammonia. Repairs should be completed in about a week, at which time both ammonia plants will be operational.
