Truck Analyst

Working as a member of the U.S. Transportation team and reporting to the Truck & Marine Manager, this position provides logistical truck support to the Sales and Marketing Department in Denver, Colorado.  The successful candidate will coordinate truck transportation and logistics for Agrium’s Western United States market region. 

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Developing key strategies with Agrium internal groups to ensure distribution strategies are being supported and executed.
  • Optimizing Agrium’s product sourcing plan, reducing costs and maximizing customer service through financial analysis and effective decision-making.
  • Researches and analyzes freight costs and classifications, delivery methods, and delivery schedules to minimize delivery costs. (Analysis of data, monitoring and reporting of asset utilization is essential in this role)
  • Developing annual truck budgets, performing analytical analysis of results, measuring the overall cost, and stewarding to the performance versus plan.
  • Overseeing procurement of truck equipment needed to meet the marketing plan.
  • Performing project management and economic analysis in support of marketing projects.
  • Developing processes and procedures to support truck transportation initiatives.
  • Interfacing with customers, vendors and internal employees with respect to freight rate verification and service level expectations.
  • Developing and coordinating plans to supply Agrium’s warehouses in the most economical manner.
  • Interfacing closely with the Sales and Marketing Departments to coordinate the logistical support needs to meet departmental plans and goals.   
  • Specialized knowledge of the U.S. trucking industry (regulations, safety & DOT guidelines).
  • Assisting in formation and negotiation of truck contracts. 
  • Assisting with dispatching to ensure expeditious delivery in the most economical manner.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of Information Technology as it relates to transportation and logistics.

Qualifications and Experience for this position include:

  • Bachelors Degree, relevant truck experience
  • 5-10 years of related experience with in-depth knowledge of distribution fundamentals
  • Understanding of contracts and ability to participate in negotiations is essential
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint are required
  • Working knowledge of SAP would be considered a definite asset
  • Strong organizational, analytical, financial and project management skills are a must
  • Solid communicator and team player, with good negotiating skills
  • Ability to coach others, and to supervise clerical and administrative staff
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to think strategically and to translate that into tactical action

Travel is required and occasional periods requiring Saturday work.
