- Independently, or as a team, select an issue and develop a solution to an environmental problem or natural disaster preparedness project.
- Each entry must be accompanied by a completed entry form. Mark all items with your entry number only - no names.
- Team entries may have no more than four members and must be submitted with the team captain's number only.
- Find community mentors to help you develop your idea.
Discuss your idea with parents, friends and teachers. You may contact Agrium Kenai Nitrogen Operations, Unocal Alaska, Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, ReGroup, or Green Star for advice.
- Conduct research or perform experiments to learn more about your topic.
- Write an essay explaining your project in approximately 500 words.
Provide background information on the problem, a description of your solution, the environmental benefit, and an evaluation of the economic feasibility.
- You may present CDs, PowerPoint presentations, graphics, models, pictures or a video tape (3-minute limit) to support your entry. Entries are judged on originality, feasibility, essay, and graphic supplements.
- Entries must be hand-delivered or postmarked no later than March 15 of the current year.
- Twelve finalists will be selected to give an oral presentation to a panel of seven judges.
- Semi-finalists will receive awards and projects will be on display at the Kenai K-Mart Store.

Caring for the Kenai is open to all Kenai Peninsula high school students.

Submit your project with an entry form to your science teacher, or deliver your project and entry form to Caring for the Kenai.
