recognition and assurance

recognition

Another measure of our performance is the external recognition we receive for our initiatives and operational excellence. An expanded list of sustainability-related awards, including those received by individual Agrium facilities and business groups is available on our website.

  • In 2005, Agrium was recognized in Maclean’s magazine as one of the Top 100 Employers in Canada.
  • GovernanceMetrics International (GMI), rated Agrium with their highest score of 10 out of 10 in its global governance ratings in 2004 and 2005. Agrium was one of 33 out of 3,200 participating companies in 2005 to receive this rating.
  • Agrium is one of 60 Canadian companies that passed a set of social and environmental screens for inclusion in the Jantzi Social Index of common stocks.
  • BNSF Railway Company honored Agrium and other shippers with its annual Product Stewardship Award for the safe transportation of hazardous materials by rail during 2005.
  • In 2005, Agrium was named one of Canada's Best 50 Corporate Citizens by Corporate Knights. Their assessment included environmental performance, labor relations, and governance, among other indicators.

Internally, Agrium recognizes groups and individuals annually with our President’s EH&S Awards. For 2005, we awarded three teams for EH&S excellence:

  • During a major turnaround, our Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta nitrogen facility focused on employee communications to reduce the combined (employee and contractor) total recordable injury rate to 0.56, well below our company-wide rates.
  • Our Standard, Alberta terminal achieved a high score on our internal environmental management system audit due to a strong commitment to continual improvement.
  • The Coastal California Division of our Western Farm Service business put together an injury reduction plan that included a focus on hazard recognition, expanded safety training and incentives for following safety rules. Compliance audit scores climbed to 96 percent and injury rates fell by almost 30 percent over 2004.
