Redwater Fertilizer Operations - Community Advisory Panel (CAP)
General Overview
Agrium Inc. (Agrium), Degussa Canada Inc. (Degussa), and Provident Energy Trust (Provident) sponsor the Community Advisory Panel (CAP). In March 1994, the companies brought together a group of people representing a cross-section of the community to review the proposed CAP terms of reference and to recommend additional members. By May 1994, the first formal meeting of the CAP was held. Since 1994, the CAP has been meeting five times annually, every second month, from September to May. These meetings are held at each company’s office, on a rotating basis. Each company has at least one representative that is assigned to the CAP and attends every CAP meeting. The senior operations manager for the host company is also invited to attend.
To keep the CAP vibrant and to make sure that participation by members is meaningful, the CAP evaluates their performance and results annually. Need for changes to the process and operation of the CAP are discussed among the CAP members and implemented. The CAP operates independently from the companies. All community members serve in a voluntary capacity. Each meeting is managed by a facilitator who is responsible for preparing an agenda, meeting facilitation, providing and distributing a summary after each meeting, completion of an annual evaluation with the CAP, and recruiting new CAP members.
