Agrium is a leading global marketer and producer and distributor of crop nutrients: nitrogen, phosphate, and potash fertilizers, and other agricultural products and services.
From 12 major production facilities in North America and Argentina, Agrium has the capacity to produce, market and distribute close to ten million tonnes of fertilizer products annually. This includes about 6.1 million tonnes of nitrogen, 2.1 million tonnes of potash and 1.3 million tonnes of phosphate. The facilities are among the most modern and efficient in North and South America.
Approximately three million tonnes of strategically located storage capacity enable us to serve our customers during the peak spring and fall application seasons.
The same nutrients that help crops reach their full yield potential are also used in a wide variety of industrial uses. For example, urea is used for the production of resins in the lumber industry, potash for recycling of aluminum and phosphates are used as a retardant material to prevent the spread of forest fires. Approximately fifteen percent of our Wholesale sales are to the industrial market. Sales to this sector tend to be evenly distributed throughout the year, much of it priced on a cost-plus basis, which provides a base to our earnings through the slower agricultural off-season periods.

In addition to the major agricultural and industrial products, we also produce and market controlled release products and micronutrients as part of our Advanced Technologies products offerings. We significantly expanded the depth of our controlled release product line and total sales in this market segment through our recent acquisitions of Nu-Gro and certain fixed assets of Pursell Technologies Inc.
