Community outreach is a way to open lines of communication with neighbours and to build trust and credibility. Open communication with our neighbours allows for early detection of concerns, evolving problems or crises, and the avoidance of miscommunication.

The objective of the Community Outreach Policy is to create a positive business and long term working relationship between Agrium and our community partners that will enhance Agrium’s reputation and help ensure the continued operation of our facilities.

Policy
The implementation of Community Outreach programs is the responsibility of the Site Manager (Production Site, Distribution Terminal, and Retail Outlet).

All Agrium wholesale operations will implement a Community Outreach program that makes us a “Partner in the Community”. This will be achieved through outreach initiatives that demonstrate that we provide a safe environment for our workers and neighbors, communicate in an open and honest manner, are an environmental steward, and invest in the local community.

Agrium will provide information to the community regarding the plans and performance for each site regarding health, environment, safety and emergency preparedness. Community donations and sponsorships will also be implemented at each site, with a focus on Youth, Health & Wellness, Culture & Civic and the Environment (see Community Investment Guide).

Community Outreach programs must be customized by the site, with support from Public Relations, to meet the unique needs of the community and facility while achieving the policy objectives. Where possible common programs and activities should be used to provide a consistent image and message to our community partners (see Community Outreach Guide). These practices and guidelines will be established by Agrium’s Public Relations Department in consultation with our operations.

The effectiveness of Community Outreach activities will be measured to ensure our objectives are being achieved and that we continue to be responsible and communicative neighbours.
