Who We Are
Driven By Growth
Agrium is driven by growth, whether it is to improve the performance of crops that feed the world responsibly, grow our business, our market share or our earnings. Our commitment to growth and diversification, within a framework of financial discipline, will endure as the cornerstone of our long-term strategy.
We encourage our employees to grow within their roles at Agrium. We continue to pursue new ways to make Agrium a great place to work for our more than 10,000 employees.
Agrium divides the company into three strategic business units. Click on the links below to get a snapshot of each.
Nutrients for Growth
Our Wholesale unit is where nutrients are mined, manufactured and transported. Twelve major production facilities in North America and Argentina can produce, market and distribute approximately ten million tonnes of fertilizer products annually.
"By investing and growing across the value chain, Agrium’s Wholesale unit has assembled a substantial, diversified and increasingly global network of assets.”Mike Wilson
Unique feature: Agrium’s approximately three million tonnes of strategically located storage capacity enables it to serve customers during both peak spring and fall application seasons.
Industrial Applications
The same nutrients that help crops reach their full yield potential are also used in a wide variety of industrial uses. For example, urea is used for the production of resins in the lumber industry, potash for recycling of aluminum and phosphates are used as a retardant material to prevent the spread of forest fires.
Sales to this sector tend to be evenly distributed throughout the year, much of it priced on a cost-plus basis, which provides a base to our earnings through the slower agricultural off-season periods.

Solutions for Growers
Our Retail operations make us the largest independent, direct-to-grower agricultural retailer in the United States, providing crop input products and services to our customers. The people who work at our 872 retail centers are committed to helping customers optimize their crop yields and crop quality in an environmentally-responsible manner. To do this, we introduce our customers to the latest technology, products and industry best practices.
“Our Retail operations really provide one-stop shopping solutions for growers to optimize their yields and returns. Working directly with growers also gives us the opportunity to understand the needs of the marketplace and contribute to overall growth.”
Unique feature: Agrium Retail can leverage its substantial purchasing economies of scale to maximize product availability for our growers.
Value Through Technology
Agrium Advanced Technologies was created as a strategic business unit in 2006. At that time its primary purpose was to develop and grow the potential of our ESN product line. Today Agrium Advanced Technologies (AAT) offers premium environmentally beneficial controlled-release fertilizer and related products to the agriculture industry as well as professional turf, horticulture and consumer lawn and garden markets.
Unique feature: AAT has a strong focus on product innovation. Internal research is conducted at two research facilities; one in the United States and the other in Canada. Agronomic research is also conducted externally at agricultural institutions across North America.
