Product Description

Duration CR is a polymer coated fertilizer, delivering nutrients to the crop with control and predictability. This is accomplished by the flexible, micro-thin polymer coating over the top of each individual granule.

Duration CR is suited to individual crops and is custom manufactured with different release lengths to match the period of time the crop requires the nutrients. It is available in formulations that will last from weeks to over a year. Field research has determined the correct specification of Duration CR for individual crops in your growing area.

How it works

Once applied, this unique membrane selectively allows soil moisture to diffuse through the coating, gradually dissolving the urea fertilizer. At this time, the urea nitrogen liquefies, yet it remains encapsulated by the polymer membrane. The urea nitrogen solution then passes through the membrane in a predictable manner, which matches the nutrient demand of the crop.

Steps

  1. Water passes through polymer coating.
  2. Urea dissolves, creating a urea solution.
  3. Urea nitrogen passes through polymer coating at a consistent rate.
  4. After complete release, the polymer decomposes into naturally occurring compounds.

Benefits

  • High Yielding Crops

Years of research and extensive testing have show Duration CR consistently contributes to high yielding crops under a variety of soil and weather conditions. When compared to regular conventional fertilizer programs, significant yield increases have been demonstrated with Duration CR.

17% average yield increase in Duration CR field trials.

  • Improved Crop Uniformity

Duration CR provides a consistent nitrogen supply throughout the field, resulting in improved crop uniformity. Because the nutrient is protected inside the membrane, Duration CR stays in the root zone, even in sandier fields. This uniformity may result in more of the crop being of the desired size or grade, therefore realizing a better overall price for the crop. Crop uniformity may result in fewer harvest or pickings, which can dramatically lower labor costs.

  • Reduced Applications
Duration CR can be applied as a single pre-plant fertilizer which may provide all of the crop nitrogen requirements, without the need for in-season supplemental nitrogen applications. The sustained precise release of nutrients from Duration CR avoids the peaks and valleys associated with multiple in-season side-dress, or water-run fertilizer applications.

Fertilizer side-dressing of growing crops can cause soil compaction and root pruning. A pre-plant Duration CR application may reduce the number of passes with field equipment and leave a looser bed for optimum root development.

  • Less Potential for Groundwater Contamination

Research has shown that Duration CR is less susceptible to nitrate leaching. This is particularly important on lighter, sandier soils. Since Duration CR spoonfeeds nitrogen to the crop, reduced fertilizer application rates may be realized; and that's better for the environment.

  • Reduced Worry in Wet Conditions

Our nitrogen is protected by a polymer membrane; heavy rainfall will not leach the coated Duration CR nutrients. This reduces the troublesome application of conventional fertilizers after a period of wet weather.

Because Duration CR can be applied as a pre-plant fertilizer, it reduces the need for multiple in-season nitrogen applications.

Manufacturing Process - How we make Duration CR

The production of Duration CR revolves around the “in-situ” reaction of polymers over the top of each individual urea granule. The polymer is applied in a single continuous layer, regardless of the thickness of the coating. This is crucial for a uniform, top-quality product.

This unique polymer is only one of the tools that makes Agrium’s Duration CR effective. The manufacturing process also holds many advantages. Unlike many other manufacturers, Agrium encapsulates the urea at the production source - it is one of the largest and more efficient urea production facilities in the world.

In so doing, Agrium ensures that only the highest quality urea granules are used to produce Duration CR. For turf managers, this means a predictable, reliable product, that stands up to the rigors of handling.
